Ray (54) had been a doorman at pubs including the Cross Keys, Garden Bar and Churchills and was a well-known face around the Burnley pub scene.

Ray was due to start a new job with Nelson Council but his son Michael had been unable to get hold of him for a couple of days and he was found at his home in St John’s Road, Gannow Top.

“He was a friendly giant,” said Michael (28). “He liked going out and loved socialising and had plenty of friends. He would help anyone.

“He was well-known around Burnley and was due to start a new job which he was looking forward to. It’s such a shock.”

Ray leaves daughter Sophia and son Daniel, as well as Michael.
