Scout leader and G-plan machinist Ivor dies
Born in Plymouth 1939 into a naval family, Ivor joined the RAF as a medic serving in Zambia, Singapore and Holland.
He married Jackie in 1963 and, with their daughters Becky and Carol, moved from the west country to Brierfield in 1970, with Ivor becoming a machinist at G-plan furniture in Nelson until the factory closed. He continued in the furniture trade with Bouyant until his retirement.
Having been a wolf cub and scout throughout his youth, he took over as Scout leader at Brierfield St Luke’s in 1971 and remained in the role until 1990 when St Luke’s ended its relationship with the youth movement.
He continued to support scouting in East Lancashire via the scout fellowship until his final retirement in 2004.
A lifelong football fan, he switched allegiances from Plymouth Argyle to Burnley and was a season ticket holder at Turf Moor for many years.
