Sad death of Clitheroe Car Boot Sale stalwart

Car fanatic Andy died last week after suffering a fatal heart attack. His funeral took place on Monday at Skipton Crematorium and, in memory of his love of American cars, his body was conyed there in a gold Cadillac hearse.

Andy, who moved to Blackpool as a young boy, attended Tyldesley Secondary Modern School before going on to become a panel beater, which instilled his life love of all things cars.

It was this love of cars which saw him meet a man who would become his employer and friend, Shaun Hoyle, who owned family firm Hoyles Promotions with brother Gene.

Andy worked with Shaun on the Custom Car show at Norbreck Castle in the 80s and went on to work for Hoyles Promotions for more than 20 years, becoming a regular feature at the many market events they organise.

Shaun said: “Andy was very well known to traders on the North-West market scene and he was always the first person they and customers saw when turning up to our Dealer’s Den market at the Winter Gardens, Lytham Vintage and Antique Fair and Clitheroe Car Boot sale, at which he had worked since 1989.

“As a car fan, he also played a large role in organising our annual hot rod and classic car shows.”

Signs were placed at the entrance to Clitheroe Car Boot Sale on Sunday in order to inform people of the sad news and many hesitated to reflect on their own memories of Andy.

Andy’s family has asked for donations to be made to the British Heart Foundation or the Rosemere Cancer Foundation in lieu of flowers.
