Rooftop would-be burglar rescued by fire service

A suspected burglar had to be rescued from a rooftop by firefighters in Burnley.

Police requested help from the fire service when the man was spotted on the roof of Cha Cha’s takeaway in Yorkshire Street just before 2am on Sunday.

Two fire engines and crews from Burnley, as well as an urban search and rescue team from Chorley and an aerial ladder platform from Hyndburn were mobilised. The man was brought down safely and uninjured.

A police spokesman said: “A man was spotted on the rooftop of a business removing tiles and attempting to gain access.

“We requested assistance from the fire service and the man was arrested after being brought down.”

A 29-year-old man from Burnley was arrested on suspicion of burglary and released on police bail until August 14th.
