Road closed following discovery of ammunition shell

Police were called around 2-05pm today to a report that a suspicious object had been found in the canal off Scotland Road in Nelson.

Traffic is being diverted on the A682, including the roundabout near the Texaco garage, just before the motorway junction 13.

The object, believed to be an ammunition shell, had been recovered from the water. Officers attended the scene with a road closure put in place on Scotland Road.

The Explosive Ordnance Disposal team is attending the scene in due course.
