Review: Dynamo ‘Seeing is believing tour’

I have always been fascinated by magic and illusions since I was a little girl, but I was never one of those brave individuals who could perform tricks in front of crowds, writes Faiza Afzaal.

Fast forward to the year 2011 and I started watching Dynamo’s first television series “Magician Impossible” and every time he showcased one of his stunning illusions, it made me think: “how in the world did he do that?”

So, when I heard that the renowned street magician was embarking on his first UK tour, there was no way I was missing that.

Dynamo, whose real name is Stephen Frayne, has quickly established himself as one of the world’s most known and most loved magicians – he’s walked on water, levitated above the Shard, walked down the LA Times Building, predicted the World Cup outcome and taken a trip on the side of a bus, but now the 32-year-old is facing his biggest challenge to date as he takes to the stage and embarks on his first ever live tour.

Earlier this month, I was one of the 2,600 fans who packed into The Apollo in Manchester, to witness up close magic skills performed by the talented Bradford-born illusionist in what was a spectacular and unique live stage performance.

Like his dear grandfather before him, Dynamo grew up practising precision card handling and developed powerful magical skills. And on stage he didn’t disappoint. A natural showman, Dynamo came across confident and successfully managed to keep fans entertained until the end of his performance. He pulled audience members into the stage wowing them with his well-known tricks.

The show begins with a cartoon strip showing a young Dynamo wearing his trademark red hoodie, battling bullies on the streets of Bradford and practising card tricks in the bedroom of his home in the notorious Delph Hill Estate.

At the request of the man himself no spoilers, but I can reveal there is a lot of audience interaction and he stuns fans by performing the famous mobile phone trapped in the bottle trick. In addition, throughout the show his beloved nan keeps popping up via pre-recorded video footage showcasing her very own card trick “skills”!

Seeing is believing. Our brains know that it can’t be real, but yet, our eyes are telling us differently. If you want to witness grand-scale magic, stunning tricks and witty interaction, log onto www.dynamomagician.com for into regarding tickets and venues.
