Raising a glass of claret for cancer charity
The Premier League manager was the guest speaker at “An Evening of Cheese, Charcuterie and Wine” which raised over £7,500 for cancer charity CARES, set up by Burnley FC director John Banaszkiewicz to save more lives through early assessment and diagnosis of cancer in the local area.
The charity has a fundamental goal of catching cancer early through improved awareness and accessibility to assessment. This will involve the setting up of community-based “drop-in” centres.
It is also supporting East Lancashire Health Trust in opening a new endoscopy unit at Burnley General Hospital, which will allow an additional 5,000 cancer assessments to be undertaken per year.
Sean said: “I’m more than happy to be supporting this extremely important charity in achieving its goals. Every two minutes someone in the UK is diagnosed with cancer, and catching cancer early provides the best possible chance of beating it.”
Burnley Football Club donated various auction prizes for the charity fund-raiser, including a tour of the new training ground, a “Meet the Players” package and two FA Cup Final tickets.
