Pupils spend a penny for global toilet charity
The children at St Stephen’s Primary School, Woodgrove Road, are now feeling flushed with success after raising £255 for the charity which helps those in desperate poverty to stay healthy.
Their enthusiastic fund-raising started in September and culminated in a magnificent fun run for the juniors in Towneley Park and for the infants around the school grounds.
Headteacher Mrs Sue Cornwell said: “I am full of admiration for the pupils’ maturity in understanding the challenges faced by children overseas, living without access to a toilet and the support of parents in raising money for the charity.
“The school is particularly grateful to James Hargreaves and especially to Bob England for the loan of a toilet so the children could, quite literally, spend a penny.”
