The 26 pupils from the Simonstone school met doctors, nurses and paramedics when they toured the hospital’s Urgent Care Centre and children’s minor illness unit.

“As part of their studies, the children have been looking at real life superheroes and there’s no better place to find them than the staff saving lives in our local NHS hospital,” says dad and hospital Practice Education Manager Andrew Keavey.

The four and five-year-olds also enjoyed a special visit to the hospital’s X-Ray department before meeting staff on Ward 27.

“The children are influenced by superheroes they see on TV such as Superman and Ironman,” said Mr Keavey.

“Yet the truth is we have heroes working and living among us who do amazing things every day.”
