Pupils help design '˜matchsticks' climbing frame

At the stroke of the break time bell, pupils at Brunshaw Primary School in Morse Street can now burn off energy using the matchstick like climbing frame which has been installed.

The children on the school council worked with Nick Riley, a landscape architect from Playscape Engineering, to create the clamber stack and oversaw its construction.

The pupils selected what they wanted based on their requirements and standards.

Nick is a big believer in encouraging children outdoors and sees it as a crucial part of fighting obesity.

He said: “It’s important to get children involved at the outset. If the process of design and construction is understood then the use and care of the equipment is so much more appreciated.

“So often we get asked to design play areas for children without realising what makes children tick nowadays. Is it iPads and lounging around, or is it iPads to plan the next adventure?”
