Pupils hear harrowing tale of hope and survival
David Arnold, the son of a survivor, told the tale of Mayer Hersh MBE to the 15 Year 9 pupils, of Sir John Thursby Community College, at Edge Hill University.
Following David’s talk, in which he described Mayer as a remarkable person who was dedicated to sharing his story of hope, the teenagers reflected in groups on the dangers and horrors of racism, prejudice and discrimination.
The event included a speech by two pupils thanking David, the university staff and Sir John Thursby teachers for the opportunity.
Headteacher, David Burton, said: “Our pupils and staff enjoyed an informative and challenging day. Our pupils conducted themselves superbly and they are now ideally placed to explain the important messages they have learned to their peers.”
