Professional driver's drink-drive ban shame

Alan William Wray (63) blew 60 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath when he was caught in Keighley Road, Laneshawbridge, on July 4th. The legal limit is 35. He will pay the price with his job.

The self-employed defendant told Burnley Magistrates’ Court: “It is just completely out of character. I’m just sorry it happened. I just regret it.”

Wray, of Reedyford Road, Nelson, admitted driving with excess alcohol. He was fined £300, banned for 17 months and must pay £85 costs and a £30 victim surcharge.

District Judge Alexandra Simmonds told him the reading made it more serious. “I have taken into account you have never been in trouble before and you are a man of 63 years of age and you are going to lose your job.”
