Popular Burnley GP (76) dies
The funeral of popular Burnley GP Dr Phoonoo Bezboruah will take place on Thursday November 5th.
Dr Bezboruah (76) affectionately known as Dr Bez, died in the Preston Royal Hospital on October 23rd after suffering a brain haemorrhage.
Originally from India, Dr Bez moved to Burnley in 1967, worked in the town’s three hospitals and was a founding partner at Scott Park Surgery.
He met his wife Maureen, a midwife, in Burnley and the couple were married for 43 years. They have two daughters, Tara (40) and Sonya (35) and Dr Bez also leaves son-in-law JP and grandsons Aidan, Darragh and Conor, as well as an extensive family in India and Ireland.
Tara said: “For over 40 years he cared for and loved the people of Burnley. In fact he went on caring and visiting several of his patients, who would only see Dr Bez, for many years after his retirement.
“A visit to Tesco’s to do the shopping would take hours as he was constantly stopped by them wanting to catch up.”
A Hindu Catholic service will be held at St Mary Magdalene’s, Burnley, at 10-45am followed by a cremation at Burnley Crematorium.
Instead of flowers, and in recognition of the care Dr Bez and his whole family received, his family are fundraising for the Neurology Ward at the Preston Royal Hospital. Anyone wishing to donate can do so via Kathleens Florist on Coal Clough or online at www.justgiving.com/drbez
