Police witness appeal after biker hurt in Stacksteads smash

POLICE are appealing for witnesses to come forward after a serious road traffic collision in Stacksteads yesterday.

The collision occurred in Newchurch Road around 8-15 a.m. when a silver Yamaha motorcyclist, travelling towards Waterfoot collided with a Land Rover Freelander.

The motorbike had been overtaking a stationary bus near the junction of Baldwin Street when it has collided with a Land Rover Freelander that has emerged from Baldwin Street.

The rider, a 17-year-old boy from Bacup, has been thrown from his bike during the collision and suffered concussion and a gash to his right leg.

He was taken to Rochdale Infirmary and kept in overnight.

Sgt Tracey Ward from the Road Policing Unit said: “I would appeal to anyone that witnessed this incident to come forward and speak with police on 08451 25 35 45.”
