Police warning: Stay safe on Bonfire Night

Officers have carried out several operations alongside Trading Standards, Lancashire Fire and Rescue and local authorities to ensure fireworks are sold with the appropriate licenses and stored correctly.

Police also wish to remind residents to use fireworks responsibly and ensure the safety of others at organised events.

Temporary Supt Russ Procter said: “We have been proactive across East Division with Trading Standards, Lancashire Fire and Rescue and local authorities with visiting shops and outlets with regards the sale of fireworks. The messages are to reinforce appropriate storage and sales and ensure outlets are licensed and provide appropriate advice.

“We have in the last week seized approximately £1,500 worth of fireworks in the Blackburn area that we believe were being sold without the appropriate licences.

“I would encourage information from the public if they believe that they know of unlicensed outlets or locations where large quantities of fireworks are being stored illegally.

“Our overriding message is to have an enjoyable and safe Bonfire Night, use fireworks responsibly and please ensure the safety of your friends and family when attending organised events.

“Please do not throw, aim or inappropriately use fireworks as not only may you be committing offences but the likelihood of serious injury is significantly increased.”
