Police hunt man after Nelson sexual assault

Police are appealing for witnesses following a sexual assault in Nelson.

The incident took place near the subway underpass between Nelson Bus Station and Hibson Road on Friday, November 2nd, around 2-30pm.

The victim, a 30-year-old local woman, was approached by a man who asked her for some of her cigarettes. The two of them smoked before the offender kissed the woman against her will. When she backed off, the offender continued to try to kiss her before she managed to get away from him and head into Nelson while he headed towards Hibson Road.

The offender is described as white, with blue eyes, of medium build with short ginger hair. He was about 5ft. 5in. tall and was wearing jeans, a blue Serio Tacchini top with a light-coloured horizontal stripe across the chest.

Sgt Tim Hitchen, from Nelson Police, said: “I would appeal to anyone in the area at the time to come forward and contact us. This incident happened in broad daylight at a reasonably busy time of day so someone should know something.

“Although not physically hurt, the victim has been left feeling shaken following what can only be described as a traumatic experience so we need to find the man responsible and bring him to justice.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Nelson Police on 101. People with information can also contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or on-line at Crimestoppers-uk.org.
