The 20-year-old woman was walking the dogs on a grassed area next to Gandy Lane, off Market Street, around 11-30pm on Friday when she was approached from behind by a man.

He grabbed at her hair and demanded she hand over her handbag and, as she turned round, the man grabbed at the bag and pulled it from her shoulder before emptying its contents and taking her purse and Samsung Galaxy phone before running away.

DC Nicola Corbett said: “We are making a number of inquiries to try to trace the person responsible and, as part of that, I would appeal to anyone who may have been in the area and saw what happened to get in touch. Fortunately she was uninjured but clearly the lady has been left shaken by what has happened and so if anyone has any information at all that they think could help then we would be very keen to hear from them.”

The offender is described as white, around 6ft. tall and of skinny build. He was wearing dark pants, a black hooded top and a red/burgundy and white scarf covering his face.
