A bid to use a former pub site as a vehicle storage facility has been given the cold shoulder by planners.

Burnley Council rejected an application to utilise the car park at Bentley Wood Farm pub and restaurant in Accrington Road, Hapton, as the development was "an inappropriate form of development in a Green Belt area".

They also cited the fact that the development would not preserve the openness of the area and the proposal would lead to the loss of protected trees.

Planners also felt that the proposed development was not of a very high standard of design.

The applicant, Mr Lee Duerden, of XLCR Vehicle Management, wanted to create 73 vehicle bays on the site and build a preparation workshop.

The application would not have affected the main pub and restaurant building.
