Photos: Technology teams take on radioactive meteorites

Oliver Akkaya takes part in the annual Rotary BAE Systems Technology Tournament, held at Nelson and Colne College.

The challenge involved teams of four students representing their schools to tackle a design and build task in four hours. This year’s task was to pick and place a radioactive meteorite on to a target and attracted a total of 38 teams from 10 schools and colleges.

These were: Colne Primet Academy (two teams), Pendle Vale College, Nelson (two teams), Fisher More High School, Colne (three teams), Nelson and Colne College (nine teams), Blessed Trinity College, Burnley (three teams), Marsden Heights Community College, Nelson (four teams), Burnley College (two teams), Haslingden High School (three teams), Unity College, Burnley (four teams) and Fearns Community Sports College, Bacup (six teams).

The results were as follows: Foundation Task (Key Stage 3) winner: Pendle Vale College; runners-up: Blessed Trinity College and Marsden Heights Community College.

Intermediate Task (Key Stage 4) winner: Fisher More High School; runner-up: Marsden Heights Community College.

Advanced Task (Key Stage 5) winner: Haslingden High School; runner-up: Nelson and Colne College.

Prizes were presented by Mayor of Pendle Coun. Smith Benson.
