CRGS Sixth Form Centre students Hennah Patel, who will study Biomedicine at Liverpool John Moores University and Zahra Bahadur, who will study Optometry at Bradford University, were immediately on the phone to friends and family to tell them the good news.

Meanwhile, CRGS Sixth Form Centre students Alick McCallum, who will study English with Creative Writing at Warwick University, Ryan Monk, who will study English at Cambridge and Katie Rapson who will study Zoology at Bristol University, told the Clitheroe Advertiser how relieved they were to finally get their results.

Alick added that he was looking forward to what the future held.

CRGS headteacher Mrs Judith Child said: “We are thrilled for our Sixth Form students who are celebrating an outstanding set of A Level results this year. This has been a very successful year. Our students have worked incredibly hard, gaining the highest grades in a wide range of subjects.”

At other schools and colleges, Chipping’s Eleanor Lynch celebrated with fellow Westholme School students, after achieving straight As in biology, chemistry and English literature. Her results secured her a place at Dundee Univerity where she will study medicine.

A-level results day was also “magic” for Ben Proos, of Brockhall Village. Last year’s “Young Magician of the Year” achieved A* grades in art, economics and maths, as well as an A in further maths. He will continue his studies at St Andrew’s University reading economics and maths.

At St Mary’s College, Blackburn, Ribble Valley students notched up A*s in abundance.

Seven former St Augustine’s High School pupils who all furthered their studies at St Mary’s between them achieved nine A*s and 14 As. Joseph Nathaniel Scott gained his stars in chemistry, history and maths, with an A in religious studies - he is going on to study at Jesus College, Cambridge.

Similarly at Stonyhurst College 68% of all the A-level results were graded A* to B. Among the Hurst Green high flyers were 13 candidates who achieved straight A*/A grades including headgirl Charly Redmond who gained 1 A* and 3 As and will now study biomedical sciences at Oxford. Owen McDermott, captain of Stonyhurst’s 1st rugby team will study economics and geography at the London School of Economics after attaining 2A*s and a grade A in his subjects.
