Now facing chemotherapy treatment, Kate has decided to shave off her long hair, of which she has always been proud, to donate to the Princess Hair Appeal.
She said: "The shave ended up happening a few days early than I was anticipating. I have been suffering so much hair loss already I decided to take the plunge a few days early with the help of such a beautiful friend.
"Her hands were shaking but the universe said it was the right time. Everyone’s support and love has made me so grateful and I’ve been able to raise an amazing amount of funds, awareness and hair for these charities!
"Cancer shouldn’t define anyone and I hope my hair can make a little princess feel as loved as I do."
Kate has already raised £1,240 towards the Princess Hair Appeal, with more still to come.
In a cruel twist of fate, Kate, who works with vulnerable children, is now facing the added challenge that she may never have children of her own.
She added: "This charity not only provides wigs for children going through cancer treatment and other illnesses that cause them to lose their hair but they also offer amazing support to families and fund vital research for cancer.
"For me personally, I have decided that I would like to adopt if possible and that is what motivates me."
