World peace posters earn prizes for Burnley schoolchildren in annual competition

Posters depicting peace and harmony around the world, as seen through a child's eye, brought some smiles and hope as the nation begins to slowly emerge from the pandemic.

Pupils from St John's Primary School in Burnley entered the annnual 'Peace Poster' competition run by Burnley Lions. With 21 entries to consider, judges Frank and Jackie Seed were presented with a tough task.

The winner was Dion Lopez, who received an engraved trophy, a certificate and a box of sweets.

The runners up were Marlena Cegielka, Lucas Woodburn and Aston Guy and they were also presented with a certificate and sweets.

Frank said: "We did invite five schools to take part but St John's was the only one able to fit the project into their schedule with all the restrictions the pandemic has put put on teaching.

"The standard from St. John’s was good, as usual, and our Lions' team had some difficulty making the choice."
