As reported in the Burnley Express, some 8,000 homes were left without power when a fire broke out following a gas explosion at the sub-station in Brownside Road, Worsthorne-with-Hurstwood.

Workmen from Electricity north West began work at the start of April to replace the damaged cables.

Dave Kenneford, who is overseeing the work for Electricity North West, said: “We’re now in the final stages of replacing 2.2km of underground electricity cables which were damaged in March following an incident at a substation on Brownside Road in Burnley.

“Following the initial fault we reconfigured the network to restore power to 7,700 properties, and restored another 300 by generator. To get everyone back on the network we replaced various electrical assets at the substation along with an initial 1.5km of underground cable and we’re now laying the final 700m of cable to complete the work.

“We are hugely appreciative of our teams who are working in difficult conditions at the moment to keep power flowing. If anybody requires any further information, they can contact us via social media or by calling us on 105.”
