Video: How Burnley firefighter is becoming a social media hit with virtual live tours to hammer home safety message to children

Fun and entertainment was the theme of a virtual guided tour of Burnley Community Fire Station.

But there was a serious message behind the tour, conducted by firefighter Lee Clough, as part of a campaign to show children how to stay safe in their homes.

Firefighter Clough spoke about how smoke alarms work, how to get out of a house safely in the event of a fire and he also showed the young viewers equipment on the fire engines at the station.

Affectionately known as Cloughy, Lee became an internet hit in April when he kicked off the safety awareness campaign with a bedtime story session,

The story ‘No Dragons for Tea,’ shared fire safety in the home and escape plans involving a clumsy dragon.

It went down a treat so Cloughy then followed this up a couple of weeks later with a facebook 'live' from the station introducing them to his colleagues and speaking about fire safety issues.

In his latest video Cloughy, who was joined by his colleagues from White Watch, focused on fire safety in the kitchen and what to do if you suffer a burn or scald.

The crew then showed off some of their road traffic incident equipment and staged a rescue from their ‘fire house.’

And although some children across Burnley may be returning to school this week, there are still many who will remain at home so there could be more 'Learn with Cloughy' videos in the pipeline.
