The Vicar of Whalley, the Rev. Jonathan Carmyllie, led the Act of Remembrance attended by members of the Royal British Legion, NHS MerseyCare and Whalley Parish Council.

Traditional Remembrance events - such as parades and other commemorative acts - could not take place this year across the UK, owing to the restrictions brought on by the coronavirus pandemic. Instead, residents were asked to pay their respects at home by observing the national two-minute silence and following local tributes organised by the local Royal British Legion.

A spokesman said: "Strict COVID-19 lockdown restrictions were observed, which meant that the service could not be publicised. The Rev. Carmyllie said that although only six people were present, the whole of the Whalley community was represented. The names of all 43 Servicemen buried at Calderstones were read out - 34 from First World War and nine from Second World War."
