Coun. Ged Mirfin, who represents Whalley and Billington, is demanding urgent action be taken to install high visible signage after the latest incident over the weekend when a lorry became stuck on a tight bend in Painter Wood.

The road was blocked for hours while police remained on the scene.

Coun. Mirfin said: "This notorious bend is a right pain and there have been numerous HGVs in the past that have got stuck. This should be an easy to solve problem, but it's not. "The frequency that lorries get stuck on this difficult to negotiate bend deeply inconveniences local residents who live on Painter Wood and York Village travelling in both directions.

"I believe the police are set to consult local residents on speeding and signage in the area and I look forward to reading about the proffered solutions that the public put forward to Sgt Kevin Day with much anticipation.

"I am sure the suggestions that they will make to Sgt Kevin Day, of Clitheroe Police, will be a lot more blatant than those I have put forward like a gantry at the exit of York Village with highly visible signage that even the most nonchalant lorry or van driver will be unable to miss warning them they will get stuck on the S-bend at the entrance to Painter Wood."

Local residents also took to Facebook to express their frustration after the incident on Sunday. One wrote: "Oh no not again. This has been happening for many years!" While another said: "Painter Wood has become a rat run with speeding cars and the locals would like it to be resident access only to keep idiots away. better signs would help. This happens all too often."
