Edinburgh-based construction giant Miller Homes plans to build 110 new homes in Henthorn Road.

It has taken over the scheme from Gladman Developments which won an appeal against Ribble Valley Council’s rejection of its outline planning application in January 2019.

The scheme will see the building of four one-bedroomed homes, 24 two-bedroom properties, 39 three-bedroomed houses and 43 four-bedroomed homes.

The scheme will be a mixed of detached, semi-detached and mews houses, flats and bungalows.

One third of the homes will be affordable and 15% suitable for over-55 including half of the 16 bungalows included in the detailed planning application.

But Clitheroe Residents Action Group chairman, Steve Rush, who led opposition to the initial scheme, said: “It seems Miller Homes are now building the houses, but does it matter who builds the houses? This is another development Clitheroe residents do not want. Even more countryside will be destroyed and local infrastructure overburdened.”

A spokesperson for Miller Homes, said: “We have entered into an agreement with land promotion agents, Gladman Developments, to purchase the land at Henthorn Road, Clitheroe. We have submitted a Reserved Matters Application, which provides further details on our proposals for a development of 110 high quality, new homes. Our proposals have been well-considered and take into consideration the unique setting of the site. A sensitive low-density development is proposed which retains and enhances existing landscaping and provides additional access to the countryside, whilst materials selected for construction are in keeping with the local vernacular. We would also make significant local contributions towards education, public transport, leisure facilities and town centre improvements. Miller Homes is a responsible homebuilder and we welcome the opportunity bring these much-needed new homes to Clitheroe.”
