She has a beautiful temperament, very calm, she doesn’t bark and will ignore most dogs, though she is happy to walk with other dogs, too. Gem enjoys her walks, and now that she has settled down and relaxed, loves playing with her squeaky toys – especially her duck and squirrel. She will have a mad 10 minute zooming session playing with these in the garden, and then will collapse and sleep again. She does sleep an awful lot! A Pendle animal charity claims it’s in crisis due to huge numbers of pet abandonments.

Pendle Dogs says it is struggling to keep up with the influx of pets left in dog pounds, and to find new homes for them.

A Pendle Dogs representative said: "We have no previous history of Stevie prior to him being found wandering alone but he's such a nice boy and a perfect example of such a wonderful breed. "We don't know how Stevie is around cats or young children but he's great with other dogs of both sexes and a total love bug around people. "Stevie is looking for a foster or forever home with no cats or children under 10. We don't know how Stevie copes with being left alone so he needs a home with people around most of the time."

Suki is described by a Pendle Dogs representative as a "lovely, friendly girl". They said: "Suki came to us from the stray kennels where she ended up after her owner sadly passed away. "We do have some information about her and we know she is fine with children but there should be absolutely no cats or small furries in her new home."

Bryn is underweight with open sores. A Pendle Dogs representative said: "The vets have aged him around five but again it’s not easy to tell due to the level of neglect. "Bryn is a tiny little boy currently only weighing 10kg and he’s just so sweet. He’s seen the vets and just needs food and lots of TLC. Bryn loves people and lots of cuddles, he melts into your arms when picked up for snuggles. "He is looking for a home that has lots of time to make him feel safe and loved, he needs lots of TLC with kind people who will understand his fears and help him find his little paws. Again, we feel a home without other dogs would be best."
