Member Heather Swindlehurst said: "We've really been hit hard by the cancellations of these events. sadly, we've lost around £7,500 which would have gone towards the general running costs of the church. Over the last 50 years we've benefitted from fund-raising activity, first as Higham Arts and Craft Exhibition and more recently at the May Festival.

"We also shared proceeds from the Scarecrow Festival, and so we felt an online fund-raiser was the next best thing. Each ticket for the draw is £10, which seems a lot but it's a very generous first prize of £1,000. We've had lots of support from people in the village and have now sold nearly one third of the tickets.

"St John the Evangelist Church Higham aims to be at the heart of our village community."

Members of the public can help by donating £10 and be in with the chance of winning £1,000 and two runner-up prizes. Just 600 tickets will be offered for sale at a cost of £10 each.
