Rating personal development at the school as outstanding inspectors said that pupils had 'wonderful' opportunities to develop personally and no-one was excluded from having these chances.

The report highlighted the fact that children take part in festivals, performances, sports competitions and community events and they even can even apply for 'jobs' and get paid, an experience to help them to prepare for future life.

Inspectors found that pupils at West Street are well aware of what bullying is and they know that no-one in the school tolerates it. Pupils also said that if it does happen teachers put a stop to it.

Lead inspector Mavis Smith said: "Leaders and staff have high expectations of pupils. They want all pupils to succeed.

"The relationships between adults and pupils are strong. Classrooms are busy places where pupils work hard."

Inspectors looked in depth at reading, from nursery to year six, saying how much it had further improved and that the subject was a 'top priority.'

Leaders have improved the reading curriculum and the report said that children developed a 'real love' of the subject and had covered a wide range of books. They also looked at phonics, PE, science and writing in depth and were very positive, including noting the “expertise” subject leaders and teachers have in their the subjects.
