New degree course launched in Burnley to give students chance to prepare for a career in the force
A new degree course is being launched at University Courses Burnley to give students the chance to learn about contemporary policing and prepare themselves for a career in the force or related professions.
The Police Studies and Criminal Investigation degree programme launches in September at UCB.
With policing changing rapidly, the honours degree programme will prepare graduates for a wide variety of police and non-police officer opportunities, including professions in the prison service, private security, and those within the criminal justice system.
Emma Hurst, Dean of UCB said: “Our Policing with Criminal Investigation degree will look at operational policing, the use of firearms, miscarriages of justice and major crime investigations.
"It will appeal to those with a strong sense of duty and what is right and wrong as they study the challenges
facing policing today, explore current reform and look at the importance of accountability.”
The brand-new course is an addition to a growing portfolio of degree level study programmes that
UCB already offers to students.
Emma added: "“Our degree programmes at UCB are industry-focused and offer undergraduates of all ages the opportunity to break the mould and do something different.
"Police Studies with Criminal Investigation offers an ideal progression for anyone with a qualification in public
services or for those seeking to return to education or looking for a change in career.
“This is an exciting programme that we are excited to be starting and we are still accepting applications .
"In these unprecedented times UCB is defining the new 'normal'.
"We are finding that many students are opting to study closer to home so our wide range of innovative UCB courses gives them the option of remaining in Burnley.”
UCB offers support and guidance for applicants wanting to continue their academic journey and a
dedicated team of student services staff is on hand to offer advice on finance and a number of bursary awards available to all UCB students.
