The kind-hearted duo from West Bradford asked for donations to Rosemere’s 20 Years Anniversary Appeal in lieu of any gifts and raised £4,160 to help the charity fund a trio of ground-breaking projects at Rosemere Cancer Centre, Lancashire and South Cumbria’s specialist regional cancer treatment centre at the Royal Preston Hospital.

Janet has been a patient at the centre for a number of years having twice been diagnosed with cancer. She is currently under the care of Dr Martin Hogg and the radiotherapy team, who are treating her for a spinal tumour.

Janet said: “We were overwhelmed by the generosity of everyone and would to like to thank them wholeheartedly for their donations and best wishes.”

The couple’s actual wedding anniversary fell last September but they then had the chance to take over West Bradford Village Hall for the entire weekend so that they could mark the occasion with their three married sons and daughters-in-law Steven and Nicola, Peter and Janine and Christopher and Donna plus their grandchildren Lucy (four), Sophie (two), Harry (one) and 11-month-old Holly, along with other family members and friends.

On the Saturday night they hosted a party with a hot buffet prepared by Tim Slater, of the Country Kitchen, Waddington. Its centre piece though was a four tier Lancashire cheese cake made as a gift by Janet’s sister Grace Procter, of Greenfields Dairy, Goosnargh. They also hired magician Peter Dean.

On the Sunday, they celebrated with afternoon tea for more family and friends, with Janet baking 150 cream buns to complement Tim’s sandwiches, cakes and the Lancashire cheese! There was also more of Peter’s magical entertainment.

The couple are stalwart Rosemere Cancer Foundation supporters and have previously organised a food bingo night in the village hall that raised £2,400 for the charity.

Besides supporting Rosemere Cancer Centre, Rosemere Cancer Foundation funds projects to bring world class cancer treatment and services to another eight hospitals in Lancashire and South Cumbria where cancer patients are treated, including Burnley General and the Royal Blackburn Hospitals.
