Josh (28) from Foulridge, raised more than £12,000 with a three-day virtual music festival on Facebook at the end of May.

The festival was part of the ‘Keep Your Hospice Open’ campaign that was launched by Pendleside at the outbreak of COVID-19. Josh recruited more than 40 acts and the streaming went global as well as being featured on Capital FM and Radio 2.

Previously, Josh had raised £400 when he took part in a charity football game, and later bigger events such as the Big Band Boogie charity ball at Burnley Mechanics and the 2018 Hospice Corporate Challenge, when along with his best friend David Smith, he raised more than £10,000.

It was on the eve of the final day of the festival that Josh received a call asking him to be an ambassador alongside existing ambassadors – Radio 1 DJ Jordan North, Clarets star Jay Rodriguez and radio broadcaster Albia Begum.

Josh said: “When I was invited, I was very honoured and humbled and couldn't believe it. It feels a little special to be in the same line up as the other three ambassadors who are so well known. But here I am, ready to go for it!”

Apart from singing Josh works part time at his dad’s business Greenview Sheds and Fences, of Clitheroe. And now he is looking forward to working more with the hospice.

He said: “My aim is to inspire more people to get involved and to be creative with the fundraising – the crazier the idea the better is my opinion!

“I can't wait to support events and, hopefully, sing at them whilst being a supporter and ambassador at the same time!”

When Josh took part in the corporate challenge his stunts included: spending a night in the UK’s most haunted venue Muncaster Castle; completing half a marathon with 20kg weighted vests on; blindfolded baking; and walking four miles in deep sea diving flippers.

Josh attended Primet High School, Colne, before studying sports science at Myerscough College. After a few years as a lifeguard at Pendle Leisure, Josh worked for Pettys estate agency before becoming a professional singer.

One of Josh’s first aims as an ambassador is to organise a real live three-day music festival, which will take place at Holt House playing fields (Colne Rugby Club), Colne on June 12th and 13th, 2021.

Helen McVey, chief executive at Pendleside, said: “I’m delighted that Josh has agreed to be an ambassador. He has already shown an immense amount of dedication to the hospice and has raised a huge amount of money in the last few years.

“He joins a very inspiring team of ambassadors who I know will attract people of all ages, particularly, the younger generations, to get involved and help take Pendleside forward into the next era.”
