High Sheriff's award to parish council for lifting community spirit in first lockdown

Helping lift community spirit during the first lockdown has earned Habergham Eaves Parish Council an award from the High Sheriff of Lancashire.

Food parcels were distributed to the over 80s and a colourful planter was placed near the parish garden to cheer people up during their daily exercise.

And to mark the work, the parish council was awarded a certificate of recognition by Mrs Catherine Penny.

The parish council has also contributed £1,000 to helping Burnley Borough Council upgrade Buttercross play area. The money was awarded after local children wrote to the parish council asking if the equipment on the park could be repaired, so they could use it more often.

And in a bid to stand with the community, the parish council has also decided to lower next year's precept to help people struggling to pay because of the COVID pandemic. And the over 80s will receive their annual Christmas calendar.

"The parish council works hard to play an active role in the community. Habergham Eaves is not a traditional village, but people know and look out for each other and we were delighted to receive the award, which makes our volunteering worthwhile.'' said chairman, Coun. Pat Osbaldeston.
