Grateful Burnley schoolgirl crops her beautiful long locks raising £540 for charity

Freya, who attends St Mary's RC Primary School in Burnley, has raised an amazing £540 and smashed her £100 target for Alzheimer’s Society - a charity she chose to support as her grandmother is affected by dementia.

Not only did Freya raise a fabulous amount of money, but she also donated her hair to the Little Princess Trust, who will use the hair to make a wig for children with cancer.

Her proud mum, Sarah Durkin, said: "We are super proud of Freya as it's very nice what she has done. She loves her new look and we would like to thank everyone who donated and supported her fundraising as well as Jade, from Studio J hair salon in Burnley who performed the cut."

Sue Swire, community fundraiser Cumbria and Lancashire at Alzheimer’s Society, said: “What an amazing thing to do at any age, but the fact that Freya is just seven makes this

even more incredible and I really cannot say thank you enough for her wonderful support.

"As a charity, we rely on the generosity of others to help us support people to live well with dementia today and fund research to find a cure for tomorrow.

“Right now, people living with dementia need our support more than ever because of how hard the coronavirus pandemic has hit them. A quarter of those who have died from

COVID-19 had dementia. Since the lockdown began, our trained staff have made more than 110,000 welfare calls to people with dementia and their carers to offer support, information and to reassure them that they are not alone.

"Every penny raised by our dedicated fundraisers is helping us to continue this vital work.”
