Farm life and good food key to longevity for Colne resident celebrating her 100th birthday
Good food and life on a farm is the key to longevity for Mabel Steele who has celebrated her 100th birthday.
The former dressmaker enjoyed a party at Peel Gardens Nursing Home in Colne with her family, including her two daughters, four grandchildren and great grandson.
And Mabel was delighted to receive a birthday card from the King and Queen.

Brought up on a dairy farm, Mabel met her husband Arthur in 1923 at a village hall dance. It took Arthur a while to pluck up courage to ask Mabel to dance but once he did they clicked. And dancing was something they enjoyed together throughout their lives.
Mabel admits she never thought she would reach a century but is thankful for being fit and healthy. Her happiest memories are when she tied the knot with Arthur, their wedding anniversaries and having her daughters. Baking was one of Mabel’s hobbies along with sewing which stood her in good stead for her job.
