Officials admit things are not back to normal, but staff will be doing everything they can to give customers the best possible experience of drinking and dining, while observing the "We're Good To Go" guidelines issued by Visit England.

A spokesman for James' Places said: "We've been working very hard ahead of the opening to get our buildings and staff ready and safe.

"The response from customers has been really positive, it's great to know that the community is getting behind their local businesses and looking forward to supporting them in the recovery phase.

"We understand that not everybody will be rushing out this weekend and that for some they are still anxious and need more time to return. To these people we want to give an absolute reassurance that when they are ready we will be delighted to welcome them back safely.

"We do expect it to be pretty busy this weekend and in many respects it's a shame that the weather forecast is so poor, it would have been great to have the outdoor spaces open where more people could have gathered comfortably in their bubbles. But finger's crossed the dry weather will return in the summer for us all to get out walking and enjoying the beer gardens.

"If it's someone's first foray out and they want to come when it's a little quieter we are back open pretty much everywhere through the week and as always Monday - Wednesday during the day and early evening are usually much quieter.

"Above everything, I would ask the public to remember they have responsibilities too. We have all the protocols in place for cleaning and minimising contact, but customers have to recognise they are there for a reason and have a little patience. It's our our first weekend open, our staff are finding their feet in this new normal and if everybody is kind to each other we'll all have a great time!"
