Dr Mike Smith, of Martin Berry Opticians, has made the appeal on behalf of Ribblesdale Rotarians.

He said: "If you have any pairs of spectacles that you no longer require, please could you deposit them in the Rotary bin outside the opticians in Moor Lane, Clitheroe.

"From here the specs are recycled for needy wearers in Third World Countries because being able to see properly could make the difference between someone being able to work to support their family."
