She took it not one step further but 26,000 steps, broken down into her daily exercise allowance when she chose to take part in the 2.6 Challenge and achieve her target of raising £100 for the hospice.

Sonia, who is currently working in the inpatient unit and the community, said: "I have worked at East Lancashire Hospice for eight years and I am passionate about the care it provides. I have taken part in many of the events in the past such as the Pub Walk and Bubble Rush. Seeing and being at the hospice I know where the money goes and we need as much support as possible so I wanted to do my bit and saw this challenge as the perfect opportunity.”

The challenge has been set to help charities to raise funds on or before Sunday when the London Marathon was due to take place. The idea is to set a challenge based around 2.6 or 26 and either donate or gain sponsorship via justgiving or Virginmoneygiving for your chosen charity.

Hospice Income Generation and Marketing manager, Sharon Crymble, said, “We are very proud of Sonia, she only decided to take part in the challenge, set up a sponsor page, set herself a target and will walk all 26,000 steps in the beautiful Ribble Valley around her shifts at the hospice. Well done Sonia and thank you to everyone who sponsored her, your money is going direct to patient care.”
