Burnley schoolboy pedals three marathons to raise money for NHS

Lewis Glass, who is a year eight pupil at Blessed Trinity RC College, has pedalled three marathons, totalling 78 miles, over the last two weeks and raised more than £300.

Lewis said: “I worked it out that I would need to do 9km a day but I didn’t want to take any chances in case it rained so some days I did more – the most was 14km in one go.

“I sometimes cycled with my mum and sometimes she ran with me. I cycled to school and back and also around Towneley Park.

“I was inspired by seeing other people doing things to help during this time, particularly Captain Tom Moore.

“I am really keen to help the NHS as they are doing a brilliant job, they deserve a treat and it will help patients.

“I was hoping to raise £50 or £75 but I was over the moon and couldn’t believe it when it was £120 on just the first day and now it’s around £300."

Form tutor Emma Witts said: “Lewis is a very thoughtful and selfless young man and I am a very proud form tutor.

"It’s a lovely example of how inspirational our youngsters are.”
