Burnley MP calls for borough’s highest honour for Netflix's Dave Fishwick
The Burnley MP is calling for the borough’s highest honour for Netflix's Dave Fishwick.
MP Oliver Ryan has written to the leader of Burnley Borough Council to ask the authority to grant the Freedom of the Borough to the businessman in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the town.

MP Ryan praised Dave Fishwick, who runs a minibus dealership in Colne, for helping to put Burnley “on the national and international map” through his films and television work, which include Netflix film Bank of Dave, and for his charity fundraising and support of local causes.
“Dave Fishwick has, for many years, been one of Burnley’s most visible and committed flag-flyers. Through his films and extensive television work, he has put Burnley on the national and international map in a positive, confident light, challenging tired stereotypes and showcasing the best of our town to millions. That alone has been of huge value to Burnley’s image, pride, and economic confidence.
"Dave’s record of charity work and community support speaks for itself. He has raised significant sums for good causes, backed local organisations, and repeatedly stepped in to support people and projects across the borough – often quietly without seeking recognition. His commitment has been consistent, practical, and rooted in a genuine desire to see Burnley and its people thrive.”
He added: “The Freedom of the Borough is the highest honour a council can bestow, reserved for those who have made an exceptional contribution to public life and the reputation of the area. In my view, Dave Fishwick meets that test comfortably.”
