Passers-by have even been knocking on the door of Stuart Gervaise's home to tell him how much they like the display at his Barrowford home.

As the village's Remembrance Day parade was cancelled due to the pandemic Stuart and his wife Lisa, who works as an audiologist at St Peter's Centre in Burnley and the Royal Blackburn Hospital, decided they wanted to do something special to mark the occasion.

Stuart, who has been in the fire service for 21 years, said: "Lisa and I have attended every Remembrance parade for as long as I can remember and we think it is the least we can do to pay respects to all those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom."

After seeing a social media post encouraging people to make window displays Stuart and Lisa set to work, assisted by Lisa's sister, Helen Curry.

Stuart added: "The painting took us around three hours. We cut out poppies using paper plates which I then had to cut to fit the window which is 2.5 metres long and a metre high."

The response online to the display was overwhelming and Stuart said he was very impressed with several other displays he had seen at local homes and schools.

He added: "I feel it is very important to educate the young in remembering the fallen."
