A total of 2,500 Easter eggs, donated by chocolate giant Mars, are being delivered to children thanks to a joint effort by Burnley Council, Burnley Leisure, Birchall Foodservice and Burnley FC in the Community.

Birchall's provided a lorry and driver to collect the eggs from a food distribution centre along with storage space to keep them.

The chocolate eggs are being included in food parcels for vulnerable families, and are also being offered to schools that have remained open.

Council leader Charlie Briggs said: "I would like to thank all the people in involved: from the Lancashire Resilience Forum that helped arrange the generous donation from Mars, to Burnley Leisure and Birchalls who lent their trucks to do the deliveries.

"I don't think that the Easter bunny could have done it without everyone's help."
