Burnley born lecturer and teacher at Nelson and Colne College to publish 'raw and deeply personal' memoir

A university lecturer in mental health hopes that his first book, which he describes as a ‘raw and deeply personal memoir’ will speak to people who have experienced the same challenges he has faced in life.

‘‘No Carpet On The Floor’ is about Jordan Lord’s own experiences growing up and the journey that has shaped him into who he is today.

Jordan (36) who is from Burnley, said: ‘No Carpet on the Floor’ was written because I wanted to tell the truth about the parts of childhood and growing up that people often don’t see.

“For a long time, I carried experiences of poverty, instability and uncertainty quietly. From the outside, life can appear ordinary, but behind closed doors there can be moments that shape who you become in ways people never realise. This book is my way of opening that door.”

Jordan, who lives in Barrowford and teaches at Nelson and Colne College, said he hasn’t written the story for ‘sympathy’ as he believes there are people who will read it and recognise themselves in the pages.

He said: “At its heart, this book asks an important question: what happens when a child grows up surviving instead of simply being allowed to be a child?

“I hope people who have experienced instability, loss, difficult beginnings or simply felt like they didn’t fit anywhere will identify with it.

“Through honest reflection and lived experience, the book takes readers through moments of hardship, survival, identity and growth, revealing not just what it means to endure difficult circumstances, but what it means to rise from them.

“This is ultimately a story about resilience, hope and finding home — even if you have to build it yourself. If sharing my story helps somebody feel understood or gives someone hope that where they started doesn’t determine where they finish, then writing it was worth it.”

A fitness professional and business owner who runs personal training and group fitness sessions, Jordan, who spent time growing up in Sabden, also works as a sports therapist. He is also a part time drag performer and has recently completed a PGCE and lectures in mental health within higher education.

The book due for release in September and will be available on Amazon in Kindle, hardback and paperback and Audible.
