With an array of “stunning” baked goods on show, the event - part of Macmillan’s biggest fundraising event for people facing cancer - went down a treat, with coffee, cake, and pastries aplenty for all in attendance.

Particular hits included an Oreo cake, chocolate minstrel cake, chocolate fudge, and the warmly-received cheese and onion pies.

“It was busier than I’d expected and we raised £551 in total, which I’m absolutely thrilled about!” said landlord, Sarah Williams. “I’d like to thank everyone that attended for making it all go [off] with a bang.”

Featuring bingo, ‘guess-the-number-of-sweets-in-the-jar’, a ‘wine or water’ stall, tombola, and a raffle, the coffee morning was a smash hit.

Amongst the generous donators of raffle prizes were Hydes Brewery, Hillingdon Spar, FLS Fitness Simonstone, Mizpah’s Hairdressers, Harle Syke Spar, Harle Syke Pharmacy, residents of Oaklands Nursing Home, and various others.

Sarah also paid special tribute to Sharon Whittaker, a quiz night regular and year-round Macmillan volunteer who worked at four Macmillan coffee mornings before the Commercial’s.

“The coffee morning now has me thinking that we’d like to host other fund-raising events,” said Sarah. “Any ideas for what we can do and who we can raise for would be gratefully received.”
