Appeal for witnesses after elderly Pendle woman suffers serious injuries in collision

Police are appealing for witnesses after a pensioner was seriously injured after following  a collision in Nelson today.

Police were called around 12-15pm to reports of an accident in Broadway.

An Audi Q5 had been involved in a collision with an 81-year-old woman on the pelican crossing.

The pedestrian, from Nelson, suffered a number of serious injuries including multiple fractures to her pelvis, leg, back, shoulder and chest. She was taken to Royal Preston Hospital for treatment.

The driver of the Audi, a woman in her 50s, was not injured.

The road was closed for close to three hours while accident investigators attended the scene.

Sgt Mick Belfield, of Lancashire Police’s Tactical Operations Unit, said: “We are appealing for witnesses following a serious injury collision in Nelson today.

“We would encourage anyone with information to come forward and speak to police immediately.”
