The Reedley-based hospice’s Midnight Memories Walk, which last took place in 2013 and attracted more than 1,000 people, will be taking place this year on July 7th. The first in 2009 had more than 2,000 participants.

The theme for the walk will be the 80s, to coincide with the hospice’s 30th anniversary.

People are being encouraged to put on their neons and tutus, with the event set to take walkers back to the age of roller discos, deely boppers and leg warmers.

This year the 6-mile walk will start at midnight from Burnley Football Club, and is open to anyone 10 years and over, as long as those under 16 are accompanied by an adult also registered to take part.

The route will take participants from Turf Moor past Thompson Park towards Brierfield stopping by Pendleside Hospice at the half way point, where people will can take time out to remember lost loved ones and have refreshments.

Walkers will then continue on Colne Road back towards Burnley. Entertainment will be provided by band performing 80s classics.

Sammi Graham, head of events and fundraising officer, at Pendleside said: “The Midnight Memories Walk was one of our most popular events so we decided that as part of our 30th anniversary celebrations we would bring it back, this year with the addition of it being open to both males and females over the age of 10.

“Although it will be a night of fun and laughter, it will also be a time of reflection for people to remember loved ones that are no longer with us as we stop by the hospice along the route. As it is our 30th anniversary we would love to get 1,000 people signed up to take part. We’d like to thank our event sponsors Boohoo and Alderson and Horan who have made this event possible.”

Everyone taking part will receive a Midnight Memories Walk t-shirt and full walker pack.

On the night all walkers will get bottled water and a snack on route and on completion of the walk will receive a medal, goody bag and a well-earned bacon butty (or vegetarian alternative). Registration is £15 (reduced to £10 for people who have previously taken part in the Midnight Walk).
