Hundreds of children are expected to descend into Burnley and walk a three-mile route around Towneley Park, Burnley on Sunday, August 24th, raising vital funds for Pendleside Hospice.

The “Little Hospice Heroes” event is aimed to encourage community spirit and promote healthy living and exercise for children, while raising funds for the hospice in the process.

It is set to be an amazing summer event with a procession of around 500 children walking on the day.

Leah Mitchell, fund-raiser for Pendleside Hospice, said: “We are extremely excited to launch our new children’s event this summer and we hope to get plenty of the local community on board. Special thanks to the event sponsors, Lomeshaye Day Nursery and Sanderson Dance and Fitness Centre, for their support, making this event possible.

“We are also encouraging groups such as nurseries, schools, holiday and after school clubs to get in touch, as we can provide them with a big banner which the children can decorate and walk with on the day of the event.

“We would also offer to come and take a promotional photograph of the team prior to the event to post the picture on our Facebook page and to send to the local press to let the community know of their support.”

The fully marshalled three-mile walk will start at 11am with registration opening at 9-30am in a hospice marquee near the playground.

It is for children aged 12 years or under and they must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the event (accompanying adults take part free of charge).

It is expected that the walk will take around two hours to complete depending on how old the child is and how fast their pace.

Upon completion of the walk, each child will be rewarded with a well-earned medal, certificate and goody bag.

Near the marquee area before and after the walk, there will be food concessions, face painting, bouncy castles and children’s entertainment.

To make sure of your place at the most exciting local summer event of the year, call the fund-raising team on 440120 to register and make a payment of £5 per child.

Youngsters will then receive a sponsor pack and Little Hospice Heroes t-shirt in the post.

Please note that places are limited for this event so book early to avoid disappointment.
