Pendle florist wins Chelsea Flower Show gold

Pendle floristry star Janet Boast has yet again won a Gold Medal at Britain’s biggest horticultural extravaganza – the Chelsea Flower Show.

She was one of five florists from all over England who formed a nationwide Interflora team at the Chelsea event. They were celebrating the fact that Interflora is this year reaching its 90th birthday.

Janet and husband Peter live in Colne but run two highly-successful flower shops in Nelson and Burnley – Going Dutch Florists. Back in 2004 they won a Gold at Chelsea and in 2006 it was a Silver. So they have had great days down there.

Janet and the team she was with created a big stand of displays at the huge event, marking flowers over the whole of the past 90 years. Janet created scenes of floral samples from the Sixties and Seventies, with the others covering other parts of the 90th birthday period.

She went down to set up her samples and said: “It was brilliant being down there. It was a really good event again this year.

“I came back home and then went back down on a train and while I was on the train I got a phone call to say we had got a Gold. I was delighted!”

And husband Peter said: “I was very proud to hear that Janet had won Gold.”

Janet and the Interflora team will be demonstrating again next month – and nearer to us! They are taking part in July’s Tatton Flower Show which, like Chelsea’s, is organised by the Royal Horticultural Society.

Janet and Peter have a shop at Manchester Road in Nelson and it provides superbly classy flowers and plants. Lots of men go in there to buy them for their wives. Go in there and you can see the Gold and Silver medals won at Chelsea.

And they also have their florists’ shop at Standish Street in Burnley’s town centre, which is also highly popular and classy.
