Peace vigil gives community chance to pay their respects to Manchester bomb victims

Dozens of people of all ages gathered in Padiham for a candle lit vigil in homage to the 22 people killed and 59 injured in last week's Manchester Arena bombing.

Held on the steps of the town hall, the vigil was organised by resident Brendan Morris and the Rev Mark Jones of St Leonard's Church led prayers and a minute's silence on Friday evening.

Brendan spent the day collecting donations and the generous people of Padiham donated Â£1,200 to the victim's fund which has been presented to the Red Cross.

Floral tributes were placed on the steps of Padiham Town Hall during a peace vigil in honour of the Manchester Arena bomb blast victims.

Brendan said: "I am proud and thankful to the people of this town for supporting and for turning out to the vigil.

"This was their chance to show support for all those families affected by this terrible tragedy."

Candles for the vigil were donated by Tesco in Padiham and Burnley's Asda and B and M Bargains.

Tesco has also donated a book of condolence for the people of Padiham to sign and this will be kept with a another book in Burnley Town Hall.

The candles used in the vigil were taken to St Leonard's Church and lit again during the service on Sunday.

Burnley Plumbing Supplies donated Â£100 and LR Ceramics of Padiham made a Â£30 donation.
